The Story Behind Sage
My love for coffee began long before I ever dreamed of starting a roasting company.
Some of my earliest memories are centered around a cup of coffee. There’s a photograph I hold especially close to my heart of my grandmother and me sitting on the floor together, her letting me sneak a little sip from her coffee cup. It’s such a simple moment, but looking back, I like to think that’s where it all began.
While most children were reaching for juice boxes, I was the kid bringing coffee on elementary school field trips, happily sharing it with my teachers. Coffee was never just something I discovered as an adult. It was woven into my childhood, my memories, and the little moments that made growing up so special.
As the years went by, that childhood love grew into a genuine passion. I began appreciating coffee in a different way—not just for the taste, but for the experience that comes with it. The quiet of an early morning, the familiar sound of coffee brewing, the first warm sip before the day begins, or the conversations that seem to last a little longer when there’s a cup in your hand.
Somewhere along the way, another love of mine found its place alongside coffee: music. More specifically, the simple joy of putting on a record and letting it play while I enjoy a fresh cup. There’s something about the gentle crackle of vinyl, the warmth of a familiar song, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee that makes an ordinary morning feel a little more special.
I’ve always been drawn to things that encourage us to slow down and appreciate the moment. In a world that seems to move faster every day, I find comfort in the things that haven’t changed. A favorite record spinning on the turntable, a thoughtfully brewed cup of coffee, and nowhere in particular to be. There’s a certain beauty in those little rituals, and they’re the moments I find myself looking forward to most.
To me, coffee has always been about more than what’s in the cup. It’s about slowing down, finding comfort in the familiar, and creating moments worth remembering.
For years, I dreamed of turning that passion into something I could share with others. I wanted to create a coffee company rooted in the very things that made me fall in love with coffee in the first place: quality, simplicity, tradition, and the feeling of home.
That dream became Sage.
Sage was born from a desire to bring an exceptional cup of coffee into the everyday lives of others. Coffee that feels just as special on a slow Sunday morning with your favorite record playing as it does on a busy Tuesday before heading out the door. Coffee worth waking up for, sharing with friends, and making part of your daily routine.
My hope is that Sage becomes more than a bag of coffee sitting on your kitchen counter. I hope it becomes part of your mornings, your conversations, your favorite songs, your family traditions, and the memories you make along the way.
Because some of life’s most meaningful moments happen over something as simple as a cup of coffee.
And for me, it all started with my grandparents, sitting on the floor, sharing there’s with me.
With love,
Kayleen
